Most conveyancing solicitors publish prices already - go on to the websites of the 3000 odd firms that do conveyancing seriously (on the main Lender panels) and you will find a quote engine giving out quotes to anyone who seeks them. This proposal is hardly revolutionary for conveyancing firms.
For me the interesting thing is the refusal of the CLC to publish their complaints data- why so shy? If you say this is "not about price" then you need qualititve elements to judge also - complaints data is a start.
