Thirty-odd years ago I had a senior partner with a big p.i. practice and an utterly reliable secretary. Late one Friday he took instructions on an offer and left the file for her with a note saying "Tell them to f*** off" which she would turn into a polite letter of rejection.

Except that over the weekend she had an accident and broke her leg (thereby becoming our client as well as our employee, but that's another story) and the temp we got in turned the note into a letter saying

"Dear Sirs

F*** off

Yours faithfully."

He didn't sign it; he framed it and kept it on his wall to the day he died!
