It seems to me a very high proportion of mentally ill people are being treated by the criminal justice system as if they were bad not mad these days.
Mentally ill people are not being diverted out of the criminal justice system to mental institutions in the way they once were. We've shut so many mental health facilities down now there isn't any where to put them instead of prison.
Forgive me but didn't i read somewhere, that young men particularly in Britain from ethnic minorities suffer in greater numbers proportionately from mental health illnesses than their white contemporaries?
Lets face it, we are now ( rather disgracefully) using our prisons as a place to keep mentally ill people in our society. Is it any wonder that the ethnic minorities should be found there in prison in greater numbers, when they are suffering disproportionately higher levels of mental illness than their white contemporaries?
