Driving my private Routemaster I had stopped at lights in Picadilly and had to miss the first green due to the exit blocked by traffic. Suddenly a beaten up old taxi appeared alongside, the driver opened the door to prevent me driving on. He accused me of damaging his taxi. The rear bumper was hanging off, looking at the back of the bus there was no damage, about 4 feet behind the bus was a pile of detritus in such a position that there was no way it could have been caused by a collision. The driver was of some middle eastern origin, probably Turkish. We had video cameras and photographic records. Investigation revealed that this driver has a record of crash for cash incidents on at least 9 occasions. Would you believe, my insurance company paid him £3,600, i lost my no claims bonus and my insurance premium went up £110 on top of the no claim loss. What are insurance companies doing paying out under such circumstances when they are supposed to be cracking down on fraudulent claims? Needless to say I changed my insurers.
