To quote Leonard Cohen:

It's over, it ain't going any further..

The tragedy of the commons is that free things get used up until there isn't any more.

Legal aid caused a vast short-term expansion in legal access, but I wonder whether it actually damaged development of a long-term solution to the old problem of equal access to legal arms.
Now the kissing has stopped, and the cheques have stoped arriving. Perhaps we need to have a serious conversation about the future?
