I agree with Arthur Michael Robinson @ 18:57 that 'It’s about the freedom to choose.'

But in order to have a true freedom of choice the average Joe Blogg should have a little basic information about pricing and how geography affects its.

For example, I have been working on both sides of the fence for too many years now and I see time and time again firms in Manchester, Liverpool, even Central London dealing with mid to low value personal injury claims of individuals who live miles away in old Band 3 areas such as Grimsby etc. Claimant's that have clearly been sent via National Accident Helpline and the like.

Instructing a Solicitor capable of dealing with a claim more locally is better for the Client, as there is less chance of them being stuck with costs that cannot be recovered due to higher rates being charged than are reasonable for their local Court (most lay persons would not know this and the Solicitor looking to sign them up to a retainer would not tell them they could get the same level of professional work done for less more locally). It is also better for the Solicitors, as they are more likely to recover rates that are reasonable for their area without having to take a large hit before time has even been looked at, making such files less profitable.
