It's concerning how the SRA have not addressed the fundamental problem with solicitor training - that being too few jobs for too many graduates. I don't think introducing a blanket ban on applying to complete the LPC until a candidate has a TC offer is the right step (I obtained my TC two years after completing my LPC), but surely the SQE will just shift the 'bottleneck' to NQ stage from LPC grads. Potentially cheaper alternative to the current route to qualification, but the same end result.

That being said, the focus on the SRA being wholly responsible for the current situation is not fair. Students should take some responsibility for accurately assessing their own abilities against the competitive nature of qualification, through detailed research, work experience, and trawling Linkedin/solicitor's website profiles for details on their qualifications and extra-curriculars. It's a difficult pill to swallow, but a necessary one.
