Having owned my own practice and then moved into consulting for a few firms while I was closing the practice down, the problem with many consultant firms if that they are not so great at generating their own work. All it takes is one problem, and consultants could depart taking clients with them leaving the firm without any tangible value. One firm I am with takes only 25% for work I bring in and so is totally worthwhile and should be alternative to running your own practice. You will then have time to go and generate your clients! It will not suit anyone with a small following or lack of time for business development.
