I agree that the benefits of the SQE are unclear, but the risks are apparent. We already have a system which generally produces solicitors of good calibre. There is always room for improvements, but this kind of top down shake up is completely unwarranted.

The SRA consulted members of the profession about the changes and the feedback it received was almost entirely negative. It's astounding that the SRA would then force the changes through in reliance on the opinions of "four out of five members of the public" over the opinions of specialists who operate within the industry.
