I have spent several minutes typing this below only to find that in that time Dominic Cooper has made the same point 30 minutes ago but I'm not going to waste my time although probably yours

I was about to write that there could be no excuse for any litigant in person with access to the internet but Googled "how do I serve a claim form?" and was directed to www.justice.gov.uk/courts/procedure-rules/civil/rules/part07#7.5 where I saw this:
Service of a claim form
7.5
(1) Where the claim form is served within the jurisdiction, the claimant must complete the step required by the following table in relation to the particular method of service chosen, before 12.00 midnight on the calendar day four months after the date of issue of the claim form.
Method of service
Step required
First class post etc..........Other electronic method
Sending the e-mail or other electronic transmission.
I then looked at the notes to r7.5 in Civil Court Practice 2017 and there was no reference to service by email BUT if you look at r6.3 you are directed to PD6A where at last you find the limitations on electronic service which in this case have rendered service invalid (paragraph 4.1 (2) (b)).
