What does the mantra "diversity" actually mean?

Is is race, sex, age (old/young..?) married status etc etc.

Ginger haired-folk may say it encompasses them.

Seeing as more females now qualify as Solicitors than men, does it mean that we should now be looking to re-balance things by preferring male trainee applicants?
