I'm very dubious whether this scheme would comply with equalities legislation, considering the likelihood that if this scheme was expanded the majority of applicants would be women, disabled or had caring commitments. They would be under pressure to consider this scheme and would be then ineligible to the same sort of benefits and career progression as colleagues. It seems to be attempting "in a way" to weed out certain classes of people that may not be able to always commit to magic circle hours of work. Considering the issue of the gender pay and prospects gap in the profession this can only be seen as a regressive step.
