I can not understand why any solicitor would want to undertake criminal legal aid work. It is presumably because of an overwhelming sense of civic duty that trumps the economic arguments, and enables them to face the antisocial hours, the unending stress and the emotional turmoil that the job brings.
Hats off to them, one and all. Without them the criminal courts would grind to a halt.
