It is a brave and considerate judge that is prepared to criticise the poor arrangements put in place by HMCTS and well done for HHJ Carey. No doubt many other resident judges have similar issues and try to sort them out behind the scenes and fail. There are many reasons for avoiding queues into court, not just the problem of freezing/wet weather. HHJ understands the issues but is placed in a position that prevents him doing anything else to sort it out. Regular attendees at Maidstone know that the excuse offered by the contractors does not work. The system was never broken to this extent with the same level of equipment.
