I live and work near Wales. As others have commented, very few people near me who live there either speak Welsh or even want to. For example, those who have spoken about it to me have all, without exception, complained about it being taught in school.

I appreciate some Welsh people may feel strongly about having their own language but I wonder how many would be prepared to pay for duplication in Welsh of all official paperwork, road signage etc. out of their own pockets if the non-Welsh speakers were not required to pay for it any more.

The fairest thing would be for the people who want it to pay for it.
