I undertook conveyancing for some 35 years in a country family practice, long since disappeared from the high street. Because I refused to beholden to estate agents, take them to lunch and most of all rarely wasted time speaking to them on the telephone, I can count the referrals on one hand, unless there was a particularly difficult member of the public who the etate agent never wished to see again! The word Pet Solicitor did not enter my vocabulary but if I were to start again I would have to spend all my time working at and hoping for referrals, and as little time as possible doing the actual conveyancing work. How can the referral system be in the interests of the consumer - it is just one Pet to Another - just pile em high and sell it cheap - not professional at all, not even a service?
