A common misunderstanding exists between Correlation and Causation, resulting in an incorrect assumption that because something correlates that there is a causal relationship. That results from a study show a correlation is no proof of an underlying causality.

To be fair to the author he has not has not expressly stated a causality, however one is implied in the para “It will come as another blow for the profession’s reputation for diversity…”
