"No wonder Costs Draftsmen are the ginger step children of the legal world."

Now come on !!

I've been a costs draftsman for almost as long as Mr Carlisle. I defy anyone to justify that costs is an easy gig.

The average day involves deploying an ever developing batch of case law and knowledge whether you are on the DEF or the Claimant side.

And to make matters worse, the poor LCD often gets stuck in the middle of the fancy solicitors' bloated egos and are encouraged to either "get it all" or to "get away with nothing"

There is a void in respect and in professionalism in many firms now, both DEF and Claimant as demonstrated in such comments as above

No longer monkeys in the basement, the Costs Department in many a law firm is a hub of knowledge and staffed by committed, enthusiastic and knowledgeable lawyers, whether school leavers, former solicitors, former barristers, former French philosophizers and critics.

I challenge you, anon at 11.12 to walk a day in my shoes
