Things are very different now - people now pay for their degrees rather than getting grants whilst studying tuition free. The LPC has become increasingly more expensive whilst at the same time encouraging more and more people to undertake what is a course designed specifically for qualification as a solicitor when there is no prospect of a sizeable fraction of those people ever obtaining a training contract.

I'm not sure that most partners achieved partnership solely by virtue of having a pulse at the right time, (Anonymous Commented on: 17 January 2018 14:48 GMT) but I have been surprised in the past at the intellectual calibre and social skills of some of them.

I don't think comparing them to the Bar is even worth mentioning. Both professions work with the law but that's about it in terms of similarities.

I definitely am not and will not be recommending our profession to anyone. We continue to fall and our union does nothing effective or meaningful about it.
