In an effort to avoid reacting with knee-jerk outrage, the increase to the small claims limit for PI claims to £2,000 is not unreasonable.

Consider the value of £2,000 now against what £1,000 was in 1991. Using a standard RPI Calculator (which Claimant's solicitors are all too happy to throw at you when they're arguing for higher damages than proposed by Kemp), £1,000 in 1991 is equivalent to near enough £1,800 in 2018.

You are also likely to be hard-pressed to find many injuries in the JC Guidelines that recommend damages lower than £1,000 anymore anyway.

It's probably about right that the small claims track limit is updated after 27 years!
