Anon 08:45 - I cannot think of any criminal lawyer who would knowingly put herself in this position. Even persons that one might suspect of poaching would be astute enough to avoid the risk of joining clients inside. There is a pretty significant difference between drink driving and facilitating use of mobile phones in a prison setting. To this extent I endorse LL 17:29.
The point about Legal Aid rates is well made. I am not, however, sure what is meant about the Law Soc and protection of small businesses. It is not so long ago that it seemed that they were in bed with LAA and bent on the destruction of Duty Solicitor status. The rates are now such that no-one can reasonably expect to make a decent living as a sole practitioner on a diet of lower level crime.
Ms/Mrs Hudson might as well have been struck off because she won't be working in crime again any time soon, and anyone doing any due diligence will be loathe to offer her a job in any other area of law
