There are good reasons why prisoners are not allowed mobile phones in prisons (though there are plenty of mobiles hidden away by prisoners in a never-ending game of cat and mouse).

Mobile phones can and are used by prisoners to continue to run criminal businesses/activities from behind bars, and in order to contact and intimidate people who are being protected by court orders ( eg DV victims).

Prisoners can generally apply to access a landline for a specific reason, and this process is controlled by the prison authorities for the protection of the public.

I find it hard to believe that any lawyer is unaware of this or can have an issue with it.
