This whole case for me creates such conflicting and confusing issues: (1) can an imprisoned solicitor remain on the roll? Ludicrous, of course. (2) how is it conceivable for a mentally ill person to be imprisoned when: "The doctors agree, and it's frankly, obvious to everyone, that you committed the offences because of that [medical condition]". (3) Seriously, Sir? Do all mentally ill people possess freedom of choice? Weak-mindedness leads to mental ill-health - is that really the inference to be drawn from the comment? Who determines what is weak-mindedness and can it be tested accurately? How many strong-minded folk do we all know who speak or behave in a way that is utter bonkers?
