I have just seen that Jackson LJ has given a talk to Cambridge University where he says (amongst other self-congratulatory remarks) that it was high time that an electronic bill of costs was put into use. I do not doubt that (and must of us prepare bills of costs electronically anyway). However, the version that the MOJ has adopted is simply unfit for purpose. Everyone knows it, even the judges. It will take 2x as long to prepare, cannot be printed on A4 & will be looked at in horror by District Judges across the country. It certainly will not deal with subsidiary arguments in relation to proportionately etc. The MOJ needs to stop this madness now.
