These stories always make me laugh (genuinely) as I can almost see the young legal wannabes looking wistfully from the Northern Quarter.
I never saw the attraction of working in Manchester (or any big city); you can't drive to work due to traffic and parking costs, the trains are packed and expensive, and the funniest thing ... unless you're pretty senior, you'll get paid less than the people working outside the city is what I've found here in Manchester.
South Manchester is the place to be, if you have a good business and pay well the talent really does come to you from far and wide.
Maybe it's just about the cachet of being a "city lawyer".
