It's telling that even this government, wanting to be seen in the most part as champions of the people, elected not to pursue a JR of the parole board's decision in spite of the favour it would curry (in the manner that News Group have chosen to take up).

I have every sympathy for the victims of this abominable man, but the systems are in place and the people are employed to ensure that release is granted only where appropriate. It does not look well to undermine the system because you might not like the outcome.
