London Lawyer - if you read the article properly you will see that he paid the original £8k to the law centre, and on top of that was fined £5k.

What he did was wrong but it is not right to say he was dishonest. It appears to me he was providing advice to those who needed it and weren't eligible for legal aid. The clients needed help and the law centre couldn't give it. They had nowhere to go, which is just too common in immigration.

That said, there was nothing else the SRA could do but to strike him off. However, we need to understand why this happened - savage legal aid cuts, draconian and unintelligible immigration laws.
