I have no objection to on central exam (similar to the days of when I did the Finals and we just had 3 Colleges of Law owned by the Law Soc with consistent marking). However the mickey mouse multiple choice let us let eeveryone in even if their IQ is 100 plan is not a great idea. We need to make it harder not easier to become a solicitor so that only the very brightest make it. 50% of those on my finals course failed.
My great uncle qualified as a solicitor in about 1892 but even he had an LLB I think - it certainly is mentioned in his obituary in 1917 - I suspect he read for it part time whilst working.

We already have some of the youngest easiest qualification routes of Europe. I qualified aqed 23 (as I graduated in law aged 20, finished finals aged 21 and then 2 y ears TC). 23 or 24 is young enough to be let loose on the public.

Also I don't want young people having to do law exam whilst working like accountants do. Iti s hard enough getting used to working life. It is so much nicer to know all your exams are over and done with and then you start your training contract.

Also it's not fair on those who just went to university that they aren't sure of the new route - it needs if it has to come at all - a much longer lead in - eg start in 5 years with a trial period.
