It staggers me that some numpty keeps coming up with the same old 'new' game changing idea for conveyancing every few years.

Yes, the process can be a bit slow, compared say to buying a car or getting a new chair on 'next day delivery' from Amazon and anon @ 12.40 also has the right of it, in terms of many of the reasons for delay being due to all the people involved, not the process. For me, however, (not a conveyance btw) the big one is this:

It is very, very expensive to buy a house.

It's probably the most important financial decision most people will ever make and a lot (i.e. me) are stuck paying at least half their wages for the mortgage for at least 25 years. That being the case, sorry but I won't trust your searches, your surveys and your pack thanks, I'll get my own.

You might be as honest as the day is long but, even then, you might have made a mistake.

I might well have some kind of legal redress against you, if you do mislead me (deliberately or otherwise), but it's as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike if you've already had my money and disappeared and I'm stuck with a £300k millstone around my neck for years.

So thanks but no thanks.
