James Bowers has hit the nail on the head. There is a massive oversupply of criminal lawyers. Duty solicitor schemes that once functioned well with 10 or so solicitors now sometimes have 50 or even 100. For every crown court brief there are 10 hungry barristers or solicitor advocates. We need to discourage new entrants as far as possible, not encourage them.
