Accurate welfare benefits advice is already freely available from CABs and local authorities. It is only not "timely" because so many tenants choose not to seek it in time. Difficult to see how legal aid will remedy that situation, unless publicly-funded lawyers propose to take a leaf out of Eugene Wrayburn's book, rush out into the street, grab passing defaulters by the throat and shout: "Go to law on the spot, you dog, and retain me, or I'll be the death of you!"
