Anonymous 9:24 - I appreciate that you feel trapped, but try not to let the 'sunk costs' fallacy magnify that feeling. Almost any person with a few years in any particular job will feel trapped, in that they think their experience means they will not be able to find equivalent pay outside their area of expertise. That may or may not be true, but simply because you have invested time and money in the past in becoming a solicitor should not be relevant. The only relevant points are (1) am I satisfied with my job (you pick the criteria that are important to you) and (2) is there something else I could do that I would be more satisfied with (again using your own criteria). What should NOT be relevant is any investment of time or money you have made in the past in becoming a solicitor. That investment is not recoverable, no matter what, so don't let it cloud your thinking.
