I’m tired of repeating that to encourage more solicitors you need to modernise the system and create a proper judicial career structure. This talking shop is a complete waste of money. Solicitors are dissuaded from applying for anachronistic Fee Paid roles as they can’t predict how many sitting days they will do. Barristers are more flexible and do better in the application process. I’ve also heard that they cheat in the online tests by telling each other what the questions are. Judicial applications are frowned on by firms and lauded by Chambers.
