Freedom of the Press is an important safeguard, although it occupies no formal place in the Constitution. The great shame is the extent to which so much of the Press focus on salacious reporting and promoting their own (mostly) right wing agenda, ignoring the very real issues which need to be properly and fully debated.

Press freedom is a difficult topic (eg see Leveson) and legitimate public interest will often be in conflict with a right to privacy, but responsible reporting would surely have respected the presumption of innocence rather better than it seems to have done in the case of Mr Richard.
