According to Mr Rosenberg, if Sir Cliff wins “legitimate news organisations will forfeit such trust and respect as they still have. We shall all be the poorer.”

It’s because of conduct like this that news organisations have already forfeited any trust or respect they might have had.

We are already the poorer when our national news organisation and serious journalists cannot distinguish between fair reporting in the public interest and sensationalist intrusion that serves no purpose other than to increase viewing/ readership figures by appealing to the gossip mongers.
