It's an interesting and rather worrying article. I'm long since retired but I'm sure that both arms of the profession are suffering from the cutbacks. We mustn't though let this government divide us.
Not having a solicitor's representative behind them at court may not be the major problem. Our work should have been done by then. It's not clear from the piece what exactly the Bar is concerned about but I suspect it's the drip drip of solicitors being able to do less and less by way of effective case preparation.
We surely need to know the details so that we in turn can make representations. We are not and should not be at war with the Bar but we need to be with this Government and its preferred organ the Daily Mail. There are those who visit here who do not seem to appreciate my more overtly political comments but I wonder if they had ever worked in small practices specialising in crime, family and housing or worked through the night as Duty Solicitors.
