I'm neither a lawyer nor an MP, but it was immediately obvious to me that the sainted Lord D's comment was outrageous, especially from a judge. I'm 77, and from well before D, it's been obvious that some quarters of the Police will readily (Hillsborough) put their own interests before those (even the death) of innocent ("Nah, yer know nothin)'" citizens.
It is not "the inability of the legal system to deal with miscarriages of justice," but the unwillingness of important parts of it, as well as of politicians, which surprises even cynical me, because I cannot see anything in it for them.
