Anon 15 June @ 2215. A solicitor’s firm may limit liability but not below the compulsory PII of £2/3 m. It may also provide in its terms that a client will only claim against the firm and not the individual.

What is manifestly unfair is that if the SRA go ahead with their PII reforms, as they no doubt will despite all submissions to the contrary, the client and solicitor may be disappointed because despite assuming at the time of the retainer that there would be £2/3 m cover, there may, under the proposed changes, and because PII operates on a claims made basis, be either no cover at all, or only £500,000. I have made representations on this in our response to the consultation. See https://goo.gl/n7YqfC.
