The mystic arts of the JAC is how I recently heard it described. How is it for example that one individual who would clearly make an excellent Judge was not recommended, whereas another, never involved in a contentious matter in her entire career, gets the nod.

Some of the hurdles to application are frankly difficult to comprehend - for example there is one "competition" in the system presently where the prerequisites include: "The Lord Chancellor also expects that candidates for salaried posts will have sufficient directly relevant experience sitting as a judge in a salaried capacity".

Is it just me, or is it this really stating that be a saried Judge you already have to be a salaried Judge.

If I add to the mix that I do not fall into a minority or under-represented group, after due consideration, I don't think I'll bother . . . !
