I refused to keep records to justify my membership of the Duty Solicitor scheme. I've been on it for about 25 years.
I was offered the option of resigning. I insisted that they remove me.
"I'm not Captain Oates. I'm El Cid."
I'm not the only one who has taken this approach.
Stop whinging about the LAA (and the poor remuneration) and do what is right.
If no-one renewed their application for the duty rota then the LAA would have to address the issues of declining numbers of solicitors doing legal aid work (the increasing age of those doing the work) and their ridiculous bureaucracy and auditing fetish.
Those firms who are crime-only should be able to survive without Duty work due to the following they have developed. Those who have a mixed practice should be able to survive.
