It will be interesting to see whether the SRA appeals this one. The evidence that the clients had given a general, continuing authority to issue (or settle) without specific instructions seems to have been very scant. When it gets to the stage where you can't find/contact the client, it is hard to see how any prior authority can be assumed still to exist.

The judgment suggests that the SRA did itself no favours by (a) taking too long to bring the prosecution and (b) the way in which it then pleaded and presented the case.
