It's high time there was a critical look at the workings of the JAC, and that means by those who use it and not by their own staff or the civil servants at the MoJ.
In addition as Lord Burnett commented about Sir James Munby: he is having to retire although he is alert and full of vigour. It is ridiculous in this day and age to compel people of 70 to have to retire. There is so much experience and skill being wasted: just look at the waste from the CA and the Supreme Court. And is telling that many of those forcibly retired are quickly snapped up to continue as judges in other jurisdictions. Just because most civil servants cannot contemplate working beyond 65 is not a reason to foist this policy on others. And it should be remembered that the Constitutional Reform Act which introduced this age limit was during the premiership of Tony Blair. Not the best example of a person exercising sound judgement!
