Oh! Possibly those bearing up under the title "mother" have not had quite the same need to hide their status as members of the LGBT community (note I am not saying there has not been disadvantage to mothers but not many of us felt the need to cover it up for fear of persecution or being ostracised. Inasmuch as this may ever have happened I seem to recall a lot of badges being worn at the time including a fish on bicycle, but I may be showing my age). I do say good for Mr. Hodgson, and the article is quite inspiring. I think we don't do enough in my own organisation but I will now be thinking about what we could do in order to do better.
