I thought that's what the House of Lords was for?

Less flippantly, I accept the general argument. I find it less convincing to say that someone has to continue actively working at the bar or else that previous experience will somehow evaporate. What I really have issue with is someone continuing their outside work even after they have become an MP, when it is clear that this is taking up a substantial proportion of their time.

My question about where the line is drawn was a genuine one - do you consider 50% of time spent on non-parliamentary matters a reasonable split? Should such an MP still draw the full MP's salary?
