The Land Registry make their system wide open to fraud and the lenders jump on the back of it because its cheaper for them and then they both transfer the liability to solicitors. I doubt many of the youngsters doing the conveyancing legwork today have much idea what a deeds packet is, let alone a Land or Charge certificate. My recommendation to all 'at the sharp end' is never transfer the Land Registry's liability to yourself by going anywhere near their ID1.
