A question nobody seems to have aired, is if a new client calls themselves X, presents themselves to you as X, appears convincingly to be X and you do work for them, if it subsequently turns out that there is another person who is more genuinely X , to whom do you owe your various contractual and other obligations? You've never met the other X. You've no reason to know they exist. You've acted honestly. And your client is not the Land Registry.
