I didn’t phrase my point well; I do not believe Britain is alone in having a culture of opportunistic claimants (which has spread to travel insurance too of late). In respect of the ABI’s statement, I could not confidently comment on Britain’s position in any kind of costs league table.

I only believe, in this instance, that there are countries where the population are more prone to a sense of entitlement, and “moral-flexibility” comes more readily into play where there is a financial gain to be made. I had meant to infer, where there are countries less prone to this persuasion, it would be nicer to be like them. Apologies if my previous had suggested I believe we were alone in this regard.
