Reply to anon at 13.14 GMT - since when have insurers been interested in loyalty? I was with the same motor insurer for 16 years and every year my premium went up. Then I went on a price comparison site and found I could reduce my premium by about 2/3rds. I did go back to the insurers I had been faithful to for all those years and asked them to match or better the quote and they said "no". I have now been with the new insurers for about 4 years, my premium went up again this year (no claims, same car, another year older), and yet the same company were offering new customers with my profile a premium about £150 less than I'd been quoted. They did at least reduce my quote when I tackled them on it. Pity that "fundamental dishonesty" doesn't flow both ways!
