The implications for free speech are deeply worrying. Those of us with a scientific world view now live in fear of losing our jobs if we dare publically apply critical thinking that questions a belief in the supernatural.

In the past you might have been put to death for speaking out; now you risk having your career ruined.

We should be free to argue for a scientific world view. And yes, that will involve critically examining certain ideologies and stating scientific facts that will almost certainly be offensive to those who believe in the supernatural.

What is perhaps most worrying in the above case is that it suggests she was even in the wrong for mentioning historic sexual abuse.

I am not defending any of the individual statements she made, but am concerned about the wider implications for those of us who support science and critical thinking.
