Eventualities such as this have been a long time arriving and those in the PI sector have known what to expect for quite some time. Are there too many firms to justify a viable return ? Probably. Are they all prepared for the next downturn which is long overdue. Probably not. Whether insurers or claims farmers are to blame doesn't matter. It's where to from this point. Every small firm with any PI casework should be reviewing their business plan and future solvency. Time to dig out contingency plans and update them. And most importantly, not to continue trading whilst insolvent. 'Be prepared' was a good motto.
